In my previous ten-year career in account management for a commodity based business, I was often asked why a customer should do business with me over my competitor.  My answer was always the same. “Because you don’t get me if you choose my competitor.” I took it as a personal failure when my clients were unhappy with our products or services. I often talked them out of purchasing decisions that meant more money in my pocket, but also more trouble for them down the road.
